Schedule of Services

The following services are held each week at the New York City Center. All are welcome to attend. If you are new to meditation or just beginning, we suggest you attend the Thursday evening or Sunday morning services which are a good introduction to meditation and the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

Announcements

January 5: On Saturday, January 5, from 6:30-8:30pm, there will be a special service in honor of the birthday of our Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda. The chapel will open at 5:00 for private meditation. Please bring a flower as a symbol of devotion to God and Guru, and a donation may be offered as a sign of loyalty to SRF. Special services are open to SRF students, members, and anyone drawn to the line of SRF Gurus. Join us afterwards on the third floor for Master’s birthday cake.                                   

January 6: On Sunday, January 6 there will be a kirtan led by our Center members in the main chapel from 12:30-1:30 pm. Come and experience the joy of chanting together in devotion to God.                     

January 11: The regular 3-hour Friday meditation on Friday, January 11 has been cancelled, due to the commemorative meditation on Saturday.                     

January 12: The 6-Hour Commemorative Meditation for the birthday of our Guru, Paramahansa Yogananda, will be held on Saturday, January 12, from 10am to 4pm.  Please bring a fruit offering. Devotees who wish to meditate in the main chapel should plan on arriving early, as no one will be admitted to the main chapel after meditation has begun. There will be an intermission about halfway through the meditation. If you cannot be present for the entire day, please plan to attend the first half of meditation only.          

January 20: Please join us on Sunday, January 20 for our monthly Fellowship Social, held on the third floor after the service. A light lunch will be served. All are welcome!                    

February 1: Please join us for a special guided meditation on Friday, February 1 from 6:30-9:30 pm. During this meditation the congregation will be led by the service reader through the practice of the various meditation techniques. Select devotional readings and chants will also be chosen for this service to allow participants to go deeper into meditation. If you are looking for a bit more focus in your group meditations at the Center, this may be just the thing. All are welcome to attend.

New York City Center Fundraising Project: We are initiating a fundraising project to help support the various needs of our New York City Center. Our main goal is to set aside adequate funds to replace our HVAC System, which is quite old and inefficient. Our goal for this fundraiser is to raise $90,000. Please click here for details. We are initiating a fundraising project to help support the various needs of our New York City Center. Our main goal is to set aside adequate funds to replace our HVAC System, which is quite old and inefficient. However, donations we receive in response to this appeal may also be used to cover large maintenance expenses associated with the New York City Center’s building and future meeting facilities, equipment, furniture, fundraising expenses, property taxes, potential future property purchases, and to help support our general operations.


Our goal for this fundraiser is to raise $90,000.

While it is Self-Realization Fellowship’s intent to use all designated gifts as outlined above, SRF reserves the right for the use of all gifts to SRF to be determined by the Board of Directors of Self-Realization Fellowship.  In exceptional circumstances where the designated purposes are no longer feasible, or have been completed, or for other good cause, the SRF Board may redirect such gifts to other appropriate ministries or projects, including any project that comes closest to the basic original purpose of the designation.

Recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, Self-Realization Fellowship is a public charity under federal law and a nonprofit, tax-exempt corporation under the Revenue Taxation Code of the State of California. Accordingly, contributions to Self-Realization Fellowship are deductible to the maximum extent permitted by law for income tax purposes. Donations can be made through outright gifts in the form of cash, check, credit card, appreciated securities, real or personal property, and other types of assets, and deferred gifts in the form of charitable trusts. Bequests eligible for a charitable estate tax deduction can be made by naming the organization as a beneficiary in, among other things, a will, a trust, an insurance policy, or retirement funds.
